Teacher Tries To Convince Little Girl That God Doesn’t Exist

Remember the expression, “out of the mouth of babes”? It’s often used to describe how children can state something in their innocence that adults can’t seem to articulate. And sometimes it is just a matter of adults not being able to see the forest for the trees. When you are too close to the situation, the lines can get blurred. But for a child, they tend to have a particular skill for cutting through the noise. And in many cases, they can see the truth more clearly than many adults several times their age.

This is made evident in a story about a six-year-old girl who was sitting in a classroom. The teacher was lecturing the children on the subject of evolution, but something didn’t sit right with the little girl. This exchange between the little girl and the teacher has become something the internet has fallen in love with. Not only does it illustrate the innocence of children, but it also shows how they can teach even the most intelligent adults a thing or two from time to time.

The teacher asked a little boy:

TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky.

TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a minute later) Yes, I saw the sky.
TEACHER: Did you see God?

TOMMY: No.

TEACHER: That’s my point. We can’t see God because he isn’t there. He doesn’t exist.

A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions. The teacher agreed and the little girl asked the boy:

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yesssssssss (getting tired of the questions by this time).

LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?

TOMMY: Yessssssssss.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the teacher?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?

TOMMY: No.

LITTLE GIRL: Then, according to what we were taught in the school today…she must not have one!!
